PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville men's tennis team was on cruise control against IU Southeast on Thursday, shutting out the Grenadiers 9-0 at the Bob Amos Tennis Courts.
All six singles matches were won in straight sets and the closest doubles match was 8-6. Only the No. 2 singles match involved a tiebreaker as UPIKE's Dmitry Babenkov held off Jonathan James 6-1, 7-6 (5).
The doubles match where the Bears were tested came at the No. 1 seed where Babenkov and Marcos Fondelius topped Jacob Rankin and Nick Roby.
The Bears finished off the doubles sweep as Francois Billet and Pawel Tarasewicz topped Chris Braun and James 8-1 at the second seed and the No. 3 pair of Juan Reyes and Devon Sgubin beat Bryson Mills and Trent Wallace 8-2.
None of the singles matches put much of a scare into UPIKE. The closest outcome outside of Babenkov's was Fondelius getting by Wallace 6-0, 6-4.
UPIKE returns to the courts at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday at Cumberland in Lebanon, Tenn.
