BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The University of Pikeville women's tennis team lost at Bluefield 5-4 on Thursday afternoon as it won all four of its contested matches at the City Tennis Courts.
With only three players available, the Bears had no trouble finding four wins as they won the first three singles matches and at No. 1 doubles.
The pair of Macarena Acuna and Thais Bezerra topped Karlie Pope and Sierra Queen 8-0 to give UPIKE a hot start.
In singles action, the top-seeded Acuna took care of Pope 6-4, 6-3, while Marine Kennel was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Anastasia Pavlukova at the No. 2 seed. Bezerra rounded out UPIKE's wins with a 6-1, 6-0 effort over Rebecca Havens at the third seed.
UPIKE is back in action at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday against St. Catharine at the Box Amos Tennis Courts.
