BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The No. 7-seed University of Pikeville volleyball team is scheduled to face No. 2-seed Georgetown in the Mid-South Conference Championship quarterfinals at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday at South Warren High School. But first, a trio of Bears received various honors at the annual awards banquet.
For the first time since 2014, the Bears had a player selected to the all-conference team as Sydney Hall earned a spot on the second team. It's her second career appearance on the team after also grabbing the honor two years ago.
Hall was also one of three members of the UPIKE team to earn Academic All-MSC honors, joined by Connor Cook and Amari Eadie.
In order to be nominated for the academic honor, student-athletes must at least be a sophomore academically and have achieved at least a 3.25 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Community Trust Bank, based in Pikeville, is the proud sponsor of the award.
Cook was also presented an award for being UPIKE's Champion of Character nominee for the 2016 season.
Lindsey Wilson's Makenzie Montano was named the MSC Player of the Year, while Campbellsville's Jessie Pendleton and LWC's Caitlyn Tino were named Co-Liberos of the Year. Elly Burke, also of Lindsey Wilson, was the league's top freshman and Campbellsville's Amy Zink was named Coach of the Year for the second time.
All matches of the MSC Championship can be watched for free on the league's Stretch Internet Portal.
