WEST POINT, Ga. -- The University of Pikeville men's tennis team had little trouble handling Point on the road, winning 5-1 on Saturday.
Point grabbed its lone win at No. 1 doubles as Rafa Hewitt and Austin Aten beat Enzo Douillac and Jan Kappes 9-8 (5). The wins started rolling in for the Bears after that as the second-seeded duo of Eric Bernabeu and Diego Reboredo got past Daniel Blanchard and Asad Sayyid 8-5.
UPIKE's third seeded doubles team of Fernando Fernandez and Fabian Fahrtmann won against Zach Sheeler and Steven Tracy 8-4.
With the Bears leading the match 2-1 overall, it only needed three of the six singles wins to seal the match. The team agreed to stop play after the fifth win came in a hurry for UPIKE.
No. 5-seeded Reboredo won first over Tracy 6-3, 6-0, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win for Fahrtmann over Sheeler at No. 6. The clinching win came from Douillac against Hewitt 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 seed.
