WISE, Va. -- The University of Pikeville women's tennis team took care of business at the top of the singles order to finish off a 6-3 win at UVa.-Wise on Wednesday.

UPIKE started off the day with a 2-1 lead after earning wins at the top-two doubles positions, but UVa.-Wise won the first two singles matches to finish, taking a short 3-2 lead.

Macarena Acuna got things back even for the Bears with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Daria Tyshchenko at the top seed, then Thais Bezerra and Haley Justice sealed the win with victories at the third and fourth seeds, respectively.

Bezerra won 6-2, 6-4 against Haley Thacker before the deciding fifth win came from Justice over Marti Gay 6-4, 6-1.

With the win already in hand, Mounia Sami added another UPIKE victory, topping second-seeded Bailey Christoforatos 7-6 (3), 6-3.

The successful doubles venture started with Bezerra and Cailee Marcum teaming up to beat Mackenzie Lawson and Serena Burgess 8-0 at the second seed, followed by top-seeded Acuna and Sami beating Tyshchenko and Christoforatos 8-4 to build the 2-1 lead.
