GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- It was total domination for the University of Pikeville men's tennis team in a 9-0 shutout win at Georgetown on Saturday.
The Bears improved to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in Mid-South Conference play, while the Tigers dropped to 4-9 overall and an even 1-1 in league play.
UPIKE opened the day having no trouble earning three doubles points. Third-seeded Fernando Fernandez and Juan Reyes finished first with a 8-2 win over Austin Colliver and Kaushik Kailish, followed by No. 2 seed Diego Reboredo and Eric Bernabeu topping Ryan Simms and Cole McCreary 8-4.
The top-seeded doubles match was the closest as Jan Kappes and Enzo Douillac outlasted Tristan Nosek and Ryo Takeda 8-6.
It took straight sets to win five of six singles matches for the Bears, all except the No. 1 seed where Pablo Casas had to win a third-set tiebreaker to top Takeda 6-3, 6-7, 10-6. Other than that it was smooth sailing, including Reyes shutting down Colliver 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth seed.
