BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Thais Bezerra was part of two wins on Monday to help the University of Pikeville women's tennis team edge Bluefield (Va.) 5-4 on the road.
Bezerra won at the No. 3 singles spot 6-2, 6-1 over Anastasiia Pavlukova after also claiming a win at No. 2 doubles with Cailee Marcum against Rebecca Havens and MyKenzie Roach 8-4. Bezerra was one of two Bears to win two matches on the day, although Bryanna Schroers' came by forfeit.
The Rams (5-6) played with just five players, taking losses at the No. 6 singles position and last doubles spot before the match started. Bluefield stayed in it though with one doubles point and three singles wins.
But UPIKE (5-2) took a 4-2 lead after Macarena Acuna topped Paloma Sanchez 6-4, 6-2 at the top seed and Bezerra sealed it with the decisive fifth win against Pavlukova.
