PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- No. 14 Cumberland (Tenn.) was just too strong on Monday, topping the University of Pikeville women's tennis team 7-2 at the Bob Amos Complex.
In matches played, the Phoenix swept the Bears (5-4, 1-4 MSC) as the two losses came by default. Cumberland traveled with just five players, giving UPIKE wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles before the match began.
Cumberland (10-7, 6-1 MSC) won both doubles matches easily, taking an 8-1 win at the top seed and 8-2 decision at No. 2.
UPIKE's Macarena Acuna battled the best, losing 6-3, 6-3 to top Phoenix seed Angelica Sepulveda. Haley Justice also won some games at the No. 4 seed, losing to Franki Jecker 6-0, 6-3.
