COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville men's tennis team led No. 7 Lindsey Wilson 2-1 after doubles play, but came up empty in singles to lose 7-2 on Friday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The Bears lost the top-seeded doubles match at the Blue Raider duo of Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez topped Diego Reboredo and Eric Bernabeu 8-1. But after that UPIKE came out on top at the second and third seeds.
UPIKE's No. 2-seeded pair of Jan Kappes and Enzo Douillac beat Alonso Tellez and Ignacio Huertas 8-6, followed by Fernando Fernandez and Juan Reyes winning 8-5 against Tomas Deppiagio and Javier Raya at the third seed.
Two singles matches went to three sets, but UPIKE couldn't come away with any wins. The two long matches were played by Douillac, losing 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to Tellez at the No. 3 seed and Pablo Casas, falling 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to Huertas at No. 4.
With the regular season in the books, UPIKE moves on to the Mid-South Conference Tournament on April 21-23 at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, Ky., where it could be seeded as high as No. 2, but no worse than third.
