BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville women's tennis team grabbed a win at the No. 1 doubles spot, but nothing else went right for it in a 5-1 loss to No. 3 Georgetown in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Saturday.
Macarena Acuna and Mounia Sami teamed up to tally the win, topping Shae Henry and Natalie Fiepke 8-6.
From there, the Tigers won the next two doubles matches as Kelly Swanson and Kaelin Roberts beat Thais Bezerra and Cailee Marcum 8-0 and Amanda Moore and Alyssa Kennedy beat Bryanna Schroers and Haley Justice by the same score.
Georgetown rattled off three singles wins to seal the match, starting with Fiepke beating Schroers at the No. 6 seed 6-0, 6-0, followed by Swanson topping Marcum 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 as well. The clinching decision came at the third seed where Roberts won against Bezerra 6-1, 6-2.
UPIKE wraps up the 2016 season with a 5-6 record, including a 2-5 mark in MSC play.
Acuna Named to All-Conference Team at Banquet
For the second straight season, sophomore Macarena Acuna earned First Team All-MSC honors. She finished the season with an 8-2 record in singles and 5-5 mark in doubles.
UPIKE also earned three Academic All-MSC honors, including Acuna, Sami and Brianna Larson. The award is reserved for those that are sophomore or above with at least a 3.25 grade-point average.
