FRANKFORT, Ky. – The No. 4-seed University of Pikeville women's basketball team opens the 2017 Mid-South Conference Tournament against fifth-seeded Georgetown in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday in the Frankfort Convention Center.
The game can be watched live online on on iOS at Backlight TV, which also has a Roku or Apple TV app of the same name. UPIKE's radio broadcast of the game can be heard on the UPIKE Athletics YouTube page or directly on this page in the embedded video.
UPIKE and Georgetown are meeting for the 78th time, renewing the Bears' oldest rivalry. The Tigers lead the series 47-30, but the Bears are 6-1 in the last seven meetings. Head coach Clifton Williams won his first meeting with the Tigers 80-74 at home before winning 73-56 on the road. Georgetown's Andrea McCloskey is 6-8 against Pikeville in her six seasons at the school.
When scouting Georgetown, we take a look at the bad first and that is Georgetown's -7.5 turnover margin which ranks next to last in the NAIA. Luckily, the Tigers shoot well from the field at 41.2 percent and rebound well, hauling in 27.6 defensive boards per game, which ranks 37th. Emilie Ziese is the player to watch, averaging a double-double of 12.4 points and 10.4 rebounds.
The MSC Tournament hasn't been kind to UPIKE over the years, entering the 2017 tournament with a 5-15 all-time record at the event. That includes a 2-7 mark against Georgetown, however UPIKE beat the Tigers in the quarterfinals last season.
