PIKEVILLE, Ky. – In its home opener, the University of Pikeville women's tennis team came up empty against Cumberlands, falling 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Amos Tennis Complex.
The Patriots, which are receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, took three wins by default, then went on to control doubles with wins of 8-3 at the No. 1 seed and 8-0 at No. 2.
Three of the four contested singles matches were won 6-0, 6-0 by Cumberlands as only Cailee Marcum at the No. 2 seed won a game, losing to Jaclyn Jewell 6-1, 6-0.
UPIKE returns to the courts at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday at Campbellsville.
