No. 7 Women’s Tennis Fall to No. 2 Cumberlands 5-0 in MSC First Round

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After a lead up that included a date and location change, the University of Pikeville women's tennis team was finally able to get its match in the Mid-South Conference Championship going Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0 to second-seeded Cumberlands.

Originally scheduled to be played in Bowling Green on Sunday morning, inclement weather forced league officials to scramble and secure Top Gun Academy in Louisville for the first round.

UPIKE (0-12) found itself down 3-0 to Cumberlands (14-7) after doubles play as it lost 8-2 at the No. 1 seed, 8-0 at No. 2 and forfeited at the third spot.

Macarena Acuna and Cailee Marcum teamed for the two game wins at the top seed before ultimately falling to Maria Ochoa and Marian Bogajo.

Patriot duo Hannah Wampler and Haley Mahan grabbed the 8-0 win at the second seed over Bryanna Schroers and Emma Wonn.

With UPIKE giving up forfeit wins at the fifth and sixth singles positions, none of the singles matches were contested with Cumberlands already having the needed five wins to advance.
