PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Juan Reyes and Nicolas Rodenbusch collected a win at the No. 2 doubles spot for the University of Pikeville men's tennis team, but the rest of the match went fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson's way in an 8-1 win on Saturday at the Bob Amos Tennis Complex.
Reyes and Rodenbusch beat Filip Persson and Javier Raya 8-4, but the Blue Raiders bounced back with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles by Ivan Diaz and Alonso Tellez, followed by Tomas Depiaggio and Denis Porcic outlasting Pedro Azevedo and Eric Bernabeu 9-8 (5) at the top seed.
Bernabeu and Reyes went on to play in a pair of close singles losses for the Bears.
Diaz outlasted Bernabeu at the second seed 7-6 (4), 6-4 and Depiaggio held off Reyes 7-6 (2), 6-1 at the third seed.
In the remaining four singles matches, Lindsey Wilson didn't allow UPIKE to win more than one game in any set. Azevedo lost 6-1, 6-0 to Porcic at No. 1 and Rodenbusch fell 6-1, 6-1 to Tellez at No. 4.
UPIKE is back on the courts at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday against Bluefield at the Bob Amos Complex.
