KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A 16-match losing streak came to an end for the University of Pikeville women's tennis team as it shut out Johnson 9-0 on Saturday at the Goodfriend Tennis Facility, the home complex for the University of Tennessee.
Whether it was on a neutral court or at home, UPIKE was just glad to get on the winning side for the first time since March 28, 2016.
"This was a great first match for the women," said UPIKE head coach Ben Adams, who is in his second season at the helm. "They played hard on the road and this is definitely something to build on."
Samantha Fraser and Andrea Hurtado got things started with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles against Madison Buchanan and Hannah Hamm. Camila Agudelo and Madison Daniels kept things rolling at No. 2 with an 8-4 win against Danielle Keehner and Annalise McDonald and the third-seeded duo of Cailee Marcum and Emma Wonn completed the sweep with an 8-1 win over Maddie Holt and Emily Allen.
The first singles win went to top-seeded Fraser who outlasted Buchanan 6-4, 6-2. No. 2 seed Hurtado tallied the winning point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Keehner.
