CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – In matches contested, the University of Pikeville women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 lead over Ohio Christian before ultimately winning 7-2 on the road Thursday.
The Bears (6-5) traveled with five players, forcing them to take forfeits at the No. 3 doubles spot and No. 6 singles. In all the other matches, it was smooth sailing against the 3-9 Trailblazers.
At the top doubles spot, Samantha Fraser and Cailee Marcum beat Drayah Johnston and Kaylee Dickson 8-0, while Andrea Hurtado and Camilla Agudelo topped Jerika Smith and Athina Peterson 8-2.
Moving on to singles play, Marcum was the first player to finish at the No. 5 seed, winning against Chelsi Mason 6-0, 6-0. Leading 4-2, Fraser sealed the win for the Bears at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Johnston.
Other singles wins include No. 2 Hurtado beating Smith 6-1, 6-0, No. 3 Daniel topping Peterson 6-1, 6-0 and No. 4 Agudelo won against Dickson 6-2, 6-0.
