INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – UPIKE women's bowling shined this weekend and nearly pulled off a massive win at the Hoosier Classic.

UPIKE blazed through the early part of the match play bracket, qualified as the No. 3 seed. The Bears swept Webber International in consecutive games (191-190, 229-177), then defeated Robert Morris in three games (171-191, 233-165, 181-170).

Pikeville was then matched up against Mount Mercy, the tournament's No. 1 seed who had been on fire all weekend. After dropping the first game of a best-of-five game set, the Beas responded and leveled the score by winning the second game 209-191 to set up a very important third game.

However, that third game would prove to be fruitless as the two teams came out to a dead tie at 212-212. Mount Mercy won game four to push UPIKE to the brink of elimination but almost exactly reversed the score in game five, to send the championship match into overtime. But, the Mustangs would go on to win the final game and the tournament.

UPIKE was able to qualify third behind the effort from Lauren Piotrowski who finished third individually, making the all-tournament team. She started blazing hot out of the gates with a 277 in her first game. She bowled over 200 in five of the six games to score 1,366 for the entire tournament.

Jessica Wolfe and Mikayla Cummings also provided a big boost for the Bears, finishing 45th and 50th, respectively. Wolfe bowled three games of 200 or more, including a 236 game, while Cummings was more consistent with just two games over 200, but all six games over 185.
