Bowling Green, KY – Reigning Mid-South Conference Champions UPIKE women's bowling opened 2021 with a pair of victories on Thursday, as both the varsity and JV squads claimed the top spot in the 2021 MSC Baker Bash. The varsity team tallied a total of 4689 to finish first out of 11 teams while the JV squad scored 4055, beating out Cumberlands (Ky.).
The competition, hosted by Southern Lanes in Bowling Green, consisted of 25 Baker games. The shootout featured 11 Mid-South Conference institutions and is the first of five regular season bowling tournaments to be played in 2021.
Martin Methodist came up 16 pins short of the Bears' top score, dropping 4673 pins on the day while Lindsey Wilson finished third with 4305. Midway knocked down 4272 pins for fourth and Bethel scored 4271 to round out the top five.
UPIKE's varsity squad knocked down an average of 187.56 pins per game on their way to their fourth straight MSC Baker Classic title. Their best performance came in game 11 where the Bears scored 236, the second best single-game score of the day. In the last two years alone, UPIKE has earned the title in seven team tournaments including this years debut victory. In addition, Coach Brown's squad has claimed the MSC Regular Season title in four straight seasons and the tournament title the last two.
Women's Bowling's JV unit also tallied a top finish, beating out University of the Cumberlands with 4055 total pins. The Patriots managed score of 3614, finishing 441 pins short of the Bears. The JV squad's best game came in the 23
rd of the day where they knocked down 211 pins.
UPIKE women's bowling returns to action on January 16th as they travel to Columbus, OH for the Buckeye Baker Classic.
