Morgan Stamper has been named MSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced conference officials Monday morning. Stamper recorded 24 points, 13 rebounds in the Bears victory 79-76 victory over the Red Storm last Tuesday.
Tuesday's performance marks the ninth double-double of the season for the Independence, KY native who is averaging 17.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. The Bears handed the 18
th ranked Red Storm their first loss of the season, led by Stamper's sixth consecutive double-double.
Stamper went 10-14 from the field, scoring 14 points in the first half alone. In the waning minutes of the ballgame, Stamper managed an important steal which prompted a foul by the Red Storm and set teammate
Mary Englert up at the free-throw line. Englert drained both shots, giving the Bears the 79-76 advantage.
Stamper currently leads the Bears with a 52% shooting percentage from the field and her 150 rebounds on the season leads the conference and is 10
th in the entire NAIA. The senior's work on the offensive glass has been impressive, averaging 6.8 offensive rebounds per game which is the highest in the country. Scoring wise, Stamper sits at third in the MSC in points per game and total points.
The MSC honor is the second of Stamper's career after earning the distinction on December 13
th.
The Bears return to action for another out of conference battle this Thursday, December 30
th against the 24
th ranked Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene. The game is slated for 12PM in the UPIKE Gym and will be streamed live on the UPIKE Sports Network.
