Indianapolis, IN – Women's bowling shined in Indianapolis this weekend, claiming a pair of team wins in the Crossroad League Tournaments No. 2 and 3. The Bears also placed four on the all-tournament teams throughout the weekend.
Friday | Crossroads 2
All-Star Bowl played host to Friday's Crossroads League Tournament No. 2 which featured seven teams in the varsity bracket and five teams in JV play. The Bears stood in second after team game number too, nine pins back from the lead but would take the lead in the third game. The Bears would never lose the lead, winning the competition.
The varsity unit totaled 6834 pins in the win, with a baker total of 3034. JV2 won the JV bracket with 6060 pins while JV1 finished runner-up with 5879.
Kristina Catoe placed all-tournament after Friday's event, placing fourth in the field with a pinfall of 795.
Nicole Gilbert was just outside the top five with 786 pins.
Saturday | Crossroads 3
Saturday was Crossroads League No. 3 and the Bears were firing on all cylinders looking for back to back wins. UPIKE's varsity unit dropped 6952 pins through four team and 16 baker games, winning their second straight tournament. The Bears were 503 pins above runner-up Huntington University in the final standings.
The JV bracket was dominated by the Bears as well, with JV1 claiming first of five teams with 6380 pins and JV2 finishing runner-up with 6211.
Individual success was abundant for the Bears who claimed three of the top five bowlers in the team game rankings including
Stephanie Crider who won the tournament. Crider finished with 866 pins in four team games, averaging 216.5 to claim her first ever tournament victory. Crider also knocked down 259 pins in game three which was the highest single game score in the tournament. In the runner-up spot was sophomore
Kristina Catoe who dropped 798 pins, averaging just under 200 per game.
Carrington Russell joined Crider and Catoe in earning all-tournament distinctions, placing fourth with 773 pins.
UPIKE women's bowling returns to the lanes on Thursday, February 10th as they compete in the three-day MSC Championships.
