Louisville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's and women's track & field teams are traveling to Louisville this weekend for the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. Nine Bears qualified for the meet. To qualify, you needed to post a mark in the Top-18 in the conference in your respective event.
On the men's side,
Bobby Allums,
Avery Adderley,
Noah Thomas,
Ethan Rowe, and
Ethan Moore will be competing for UPIKE. Allums qualified in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash. He set new personal bests in both events this season. At the Horace Turner Open on Dec. 10, he ran a 7.07 in the 60 and at the Kentucky Collegiate Indoor Meet on Jan. 22, he ran a 22.97 in the 200.
Adderley will be competing in the high jump after a season-best mark of 1.75m at the Pioneer Open on Jan. 7.
Thomas and Rowe are both set to compete in the shot put and weight throw. Thomas set personal bests and school records this season in both events. He had a 14.03m toss in the shot put at the Pioneer Open and a 15.52m weight throw this past weekend at the Mount St. Joseph University Invitational.
In the first meet this season on Dec. 3 at the Marietta First Glimpse, Rowe set personal bests in both the shot put and weight throw. In the shot put, he had a mark of 11.60m before having a weight throw of 12.54m.
Moore will be competing in the weight throw for the Bears. At the Kentucky Collegiate Indoor Meet, he posted a personal best mark of 10.19m.
Miracle Taylor,
Valerie Kendrick,
Verlecia Scarlett, and
Bethany Tackett will all be competing for the Bears on the women's side. Taylor, Kendrick, and Scarlett will participate in both the shot put and weight throws. Taylor set personal bests in both events this weekend at Mount St. Joseph. She had a throw of 10.15m in the shot put before posting a program record 13.69m mark in the weight throw.
In her first collegiate meet this season, Kendrick got things started with a program record 12.99m toss in the shot put, just missing the NAIA B standard. On Jan. 28 at the Tiger Paw classic, she had a season-best mark of 11.00m in the weight throw.
Scarlett set a personal best in the weight throw at the Horace Turner Open with a throw of 12.76m and had a season-best shot put of 10.35m last weekend at Mount St. Joseph.
Tackett will be competing for UPIKE in the shot put after a season-best mark of 9.77m in her first collegiate meet at the Marietta First Glimpse.
Events begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon and 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Live stats and live stream links will be provided on upikebears.com when made available.
