Bowling Green, KY – The Mid-South Conference announced their Men's Tennis Player of the Week Monday afternoon and UPIKE's
Juan Diego Alzate earned the honor for the first time in his career. Alzate becomes the first Bear to be named the men's tennis conference player of the week since Marcos Fondelius on March 12th, 2012.
Alzate had a solid week for UPIKE, winning matches at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles in the Bears first win of the season at Indiana University Southeast on Saturday afternoon. Alzate and
Mirko Dedich won the first doubles match of the season for UPIKE, 6-1 over Caleb Harris and Brent Reynolds of the Grenadiers. Alzate moved to 3-0 in singles play this season after defeating Reynolds in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (3) and helping the Bears to victory.
He will look to continue his solid play to start the season this week as the Bears have a pair of matches. They play Brescia University in their home opener Thursday afternoon at Bob Amos Complex at 3:00 p.m. UPIKE then ends the week in their MSC opener on Sunday afternoon against University of the Cumberlands at 3:00 p.m.
