Phoenix Slip Past UPIKE In MSC Thriller

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's tennis team lost a thriller to No. 20 Cumberland University Friday afternoon at Bob Amos Complex, 4-3. UPIKE led 3-1 in the match but the Phoenix roared back to snatch the match away from the Bears.

Juan Diego Alzate and Mirko Dedich both won their doubles and singles matches on Friday, as they move to 3-1 this season as doubles unit. They also both improve to 5-1 in singles play this season. Martin Lorenzo and Valentin Ortiz also won their doubles match as the Bears took the point heading into singles play.

Cumberland tied the match at 1-1 after a win at No. 5, but the Bears took a 3-1 lead after the aforementioned wins by Alzate and Dedich. Unfortunately for UPIKE, they wouldn't win another match and would drop the dual 4-3.

What's Up Next
The Bears play again next Saturday at No. 10 Lindsey Wilson College, beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. The Blue Raiders beat UPIKE in last season's match.
