Atlanta, GA – UPIKE women's basketball's one-two punch duo of
Morgan Stamper and
Mary Englert landed recognition in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NAIA Coaches' All-America Team, announced the organization Monday morning. Stamper earned All-American status while Englert was named honorable mention.
WBCA's Coaches All-America Team is a prestigious award that honors 10 players from each division (NCAA DII, and III, NAIA,two-year college, and high school). The honorees are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division.
Stamper, who was recently named First-Team All-MSC, made a convincing argument for conference player of the year in 2021-22. Averaging 13.2 points and a MSC best 12.1 rebounds per game, the sophomore accumulated an unprecedented 21 double-doubles throughout the season. Stamper led the team in rebounds with 400 total, pacing the NAIA in offensive boards with 6.5 per game. The Independence, Ky. native was second on the team behind Englert with 437 points scored.
Englert continued building her case as one of the top players in program history this season, leading the team in scoring with 478 points. After eclipsing 1,000 career points in a showdown with Talladega in November, Englert led a season effort that landed her All-MSC First Team honors in March. Starting all 33 games, Englert led the team in field goals made (181), assists (94), and steals (41). Second only to Stamper, the senior managed 116 free throw attempts and shot 81% from the stripe. Englert finished the season in the top ten of the MSC in total points, points per game, and steals.
The Bears finished the season in the NAIA Women's Basketball Championships Opening Round, defeating Indiana Tech before falling to Bryan College in the opening round final.
