Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's tennis team won their third dual of the season and first dual in Mid-South Conference play Saturday afternoon, 4-0 over the visiting Freed-Hardeman Lions.
Valentin Ortiz,
Juan Diego Alzate, and
Mirko Dedich all posted victories in singles and doubles play. Ortiz and
Juan Diego Medina got things started with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, their first win this season as a team. The doubles point came down to the first court, where Alzate and Dedich won 6-1 to claim a 1-0 dual lead and their fifth doubles win as a team this year.
Alzate got the scoring started in singles playing on the third court, only losing one game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Arthur Calendre. This is Alzate's team-leading seventh singles win this season. Ortiz swept his opponent 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 to give the Bears a 3-0 lead and put them one win away from the dual victory. Ortiz has four singles wins this season. Dedich concluded the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 to give UPIKE the 4-0 sweep and pick up his sixth singles win this year.

The Bears will be right back at Bob Amos Complex tomorrow afternoon for a matchup with the Bethel University Wildcats beginning at Noon. Last season, UPIKE beat Bethel 5-2 on the road.
