Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville women's tennis team won their first Mid-South Conference dual this season against Freed-Hardeman University 4-3 in an exciting match that came down to the final court.
UPIKE won the doubles point with wins from the teams of
Camila Agudelo and
Gabriela Guacanes on court two and
Sara Contreras and
Riley Mullins on court three. That is the first win of the season for both of these teams.
UPIKE dropped No. 2 and No. 3 singles to fall behind 2-1.
Andrea Hurtado picked up a 7-6 (4), 6-1 sweep on court one to tie things up at 2-2. This is Hurtado's third singles win this season. Contreras gave the Bears a 3-2 lead after a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court five for her second singles win of the year. A UPIKE loss at No. 6 made it a winner take all match on court four. Guacanes answered the challenge with a 7-6 (4), 6-0 win for the Bears victory and her first singles win of the season.

UPIKE will be back on the court's tomorrow afternoon for a home match with the Bethel University Wildcats beginning at Noon. Last season, the Bears dropped their match against the Wildcats on the road.
