Bears Claim Second MSC Victory Of The Weekend

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville women's tennis team won their second dual match of the weekend on a brisk Sunday afternoon at Bob Amos Complex, 5-2 against the Bethel University Wildcats.

After splitting courts two and three in doubles, it came down to the first court to determine the point. Luisa Diaz and Andrea Hurtado prevailed 6-4 over Tijana Svitlica and Marina Zotelli of Bethel to go up 1-0 heading into singles play. Diaz and Hurtado lead the team with three doubles victories this season.

The match was briefly even after Bethel took courts one and three along with Hurtado winning on court two for the Bears to tie things up 2-2 heading into the final three matches. This is Hurtado's team-leading fourth singles victory of the season.

Gabriela Guacanes (6-2, 6-1), Sara Contreras (6-4, 7-5), and Riley Mullins (8-3) all stepped up big for UPIKE on courts four, five, and six to win the dual. This is the second win this year for Guacanes, third for Contreras, and third for Mullins.
