Archery Boasts 18 Medalists, Two All-MSC Selections; Finish Runner-Up in MSC Outdoor Championships

Williamsburg, KY – Bears Archery finished runner-up in team placings at the 2022 MSC Outdoor Championships Sunday, totaling 150 points. The Bears collected five gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals while Anna Scarbrough and Kynsley Redmon earned All-MSC selections.

Second only to Cumberlands, Ellie Yocum's program brought home the hardware in a big way with 18 total medals and a pair of point-earning fourth place finishes. The Patriots paced the field with 206 points, while Lindsey Wilson totaled 108 to finish third. Due to sickness that prevented the Bears from competing in the MSC Indoor Championships earlier in the season, the team was ineligible for overall conference title consideration.

Three individuals took gold in their respective events, including AJ Clements, Bella Barrett, and Anna Scarbrough. Clements outscored his semifinals opponent in the recurve by a combined 15 points to move on to the finals where he defeated Lindsey Wilson's Sanchez 6-5. Barrett claimed the title in head-to-head recurve shooting as well, taking three straight ends from Cumberlands' Ceridwyn Salyers to take gold. In the women's compound, Scarbrough found herself locked in a showdown in the finals round but defeated Jamilee Moore of Union by a score of 147-139. In team rounds, the Bears' women's fixed pins group of Brooke Fannin, Sophia Hunziger, and Kynsley Redmon took the top spot.

Silver medals counted for eight points each as the Bears tallied the most of any team in the competition. The barebow men's team of Kyle Sturgill, Thomas Olson, and Jacob Suffridge defeated Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals before earning runner up in the finals shoot. The compound women's team featuring Alyssa Sturgill, Alyssa Tenney, and Anna Scarbrough fell narrowly to Cumberlands in the finals after defeating Union to secure the silver.

A pair of individuals also secured runner-up spots for the Bears including Thomas Olson in the men's barebow and Kynsley Redmon in the women's fixed pins.

Earning bronze for UPIKE was the women's recurve team of Ashlee Welch, Anastasia McFarland, and Bella Barrett. The women's barebow unit of Kay Falter Allison Collinsworth, and Emma Terry also collected six points with their third place finish. Men's compound (Daniel Clayton, Evan Flores & Matthew Russell), men's fixed pins (Caleb Emrick, Silas Ratliff & Kirklin Newsome) rounded out the team bronze finishes.

Individual third place finishers were Falter in the women's barebow, and Newsome in the men's fixed pins.

Anna Scarbrough claimed First-Team All-MSC for her performance in the compound, while Kynsley Redmon was named second team for the fixed pin event.

Bears archery returns to shooting the weekend of May 19 – 22nd for the USA Archery Outdoor Nationals in Chula Vista, California.
