Bowling Green, KY – The University of Pikeville women's tennis team dropped their Opening Round dual of the Mid-South Conference tournament to the Bethel University Wildcats, 4-3 on Thursday afternoon. In the final match to determine the victor, the Wildcats won a set tiebreaker in the third set to claim the match.
Bethel won the doubles point, but
Camila Agudelo and
Gabriela Guacanes won their match in the No. 2 spot, 6-1 over Sophia Vasconcellos and Anabella Baralt. This was their third win as a duo this season.
After the Bears fell behind 2-0 at the start of singles play,
Andrea Hurtado (6-0, 6-0) won on court two and
Riley Mullins (6-0, 6-2) tied the match up with a win on court six. Hurtado finishes the season with 11 singles wins while Mullins finishes with 10.
Luisa Diaz then beat Marina Zotelli 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot to give UPIKE their first lead of the day 3-2. Diaz finishes the year with nine singles wins. Unfortunately for the Bears, that was as close as they would get, with Bethel claiming the final two courts and the match.
