Bowling Green, Ky. - Earlier today, officials of the Mid-South Conference announced that the University of Pikeville's Verlecia Scarlett has been named MSC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The announcement comes a few days after Scarlett's strong showing at the Marietta Open. 

The senior from Vero Beach, Fla. finished in first out of 16 in the women's weight throw with a 13.16m toss. With the throw, Scarlett scored ten points for the Bears. It is Scarlett's first time being named MSC Track and Field Athlete of the Week. 

Scarlett and the track and field Bears will be back in action for the Kentucky Collegiate Open this Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
