McKenzie, Tenn. - The UPIKE women's tennis team was defeated by Bethel and Freed-Hardeman Sunday afternoon.
Match 1: UPIKE 0, Bethel 4
Gabriela Guacanes and Genesis Medina got the doubles matches started with a 6-1 win. The Wildcats came back and won the next two matches to take the doubles point. In the singles matches, Bethel won three matches and the Wildcats took the 4-0 win over UPIKE.
Match 2: UPIKE 3, Freed-Hardeman 4
Gabriela Guacanes and Genesis Medina lost the first doubles match. Sara Contreras and Madison Ball, along with Katharina Steib and Hannah Thompson, lost 6-4 and the Lions took the point and swept the doubles matches.
UPIKE went 3-3 in singles matches, starting with a 6-3, 7-5 win by Genesis Medina. Katharina Steib followed up Medina's win with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Sara Contreras got another point for the Bears with 6-3, 6-3 win. The Bears would, unfortunately, lose this match after losing the final singles match.
Next up for the Bears is a matchup with the Union College Bulldogs.
