Pikeville, Ky. — The Bears won their second consecutive match with a 6-1 victory over the Midway University Eagles at Bob Amos Tuesday.
Doubles:
The Bears fell 6-2 in the first match. Then, Gabriella Guacanes and Genesis Medina won 6-2 to even the score at 1-1. Sara Contreras and Katharina Steib teamed up for a 6-2 to secure the doubles point for UPIKE.
Singles:
After the Eagles took the first singles match, Genesis Medina won 6-1, 6-1 to put the Bears back up in the team score. Katharina Steib won a 6-1, 6-1 decision to put UPIKE up 3-1. The Bears secured the match victory after Elizabeth Davis won 6-2, 6-4 over her Midway counterpart. Sara Contreras and Hannah Thompson both won to cap off the match, giving the Bears a 6-1 victory.
UPIKE's record climbs to 3-7 (1-3 MSC) following today's win over the Eagles. Coach Cailee Marcum's squad will be back in action this Friday against Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky.
