Pikeville, Ky. – The Bears wrapped up their 2022-23 home schedule with a 7-0 loss to Thomas More Thursday afternoon.
Doubles:
Hannah Thompson and Elizabeth Davis opened the match with a 6-2 loss to TMU's Alexis Covington and Heidi Kane. In the second doubles match, Gabriella Guacanes and Genesis Medina found themselves locked in a close game with Noelia Matinez Garcia and Dakota Schroeder. After a back and forth battle, Garcia and Schroeder won a 7-5 decision to take the team point. Katharina Steib and Sara Contreras fell in the third doubles match and the Saints took a 1-0 lead into the singles matches.
Singles:
Gabriella Guacanes opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Alexis Covington. Genesis Medina fell to Dakota Schroeder by the same count, 6-2, 6-4. The Saints secured their fourth team point of the match after Noelia Martinez Garcia won over Elizabeth Davis.
The first set between Katharina Steib and Heidi Kane was a close one. Kane ultimately took the first set 7-6 then secured another team point for TMU after winning the second set. Sara Contreras and Hannah Thompson were both defeated 2-0 and the Saints took the match 7-0.
Coach Cailee Marcum's squad will be back in action Saturday afternoon in Williamsburg for a match against University of the Cumberlands.
