Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Junior guard Torie Brooks fired in 30 points thanks to 6-of-9 shooting from the outside to lift Bryan College to an 85-68 win over the University of Pikeville Wednesday night.

Brooks, who was 11-of-16 overall, also had four rebounds and three assists in the win.

Brooks got plenty of help, with seniors Kaitlynn Hennessee and Samantha Russell scoring 19 points apiece. Hennessee added eight rebounds and eight assists.

Bryan (8-8, 16-1 in the Appalachian Athletics Conference) jumped out to an 8-3 lead, the last four of which came from junior Torie Brooks. The Lions had another run, this one 8-2, getting four from senior Nevaeh Majors, including the last basket which came with 2:55 left in the first period to make the score 16-8.

Leading 25-16 when the first period ended, the Lions scored the first five of the second frame to stretch the lead to 30-16.

UPike needed only a minute to score six of seven to climb back in it. Senior

Morgan Stamper scored inside and when sophomore
Allie Stone hit a jump shot, the Bears were within nine, 33-24, with 7:24 left in the half.

The Bears went on an extended 12-6 run later in the period. They got six from sophomore
Katie Collopy in the stretch, and when Stone nailed a three with 2:38 left, the Bears were within five, 41-36.

Bryan, however, closed the half with a 10-3 run. It ended with a three by senior Samantha Russell to make the lead 51-39 at the half.

Bryan's lead was thanks to 57.6 percent shooting in the half, including 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from the arc.

The Bears scored the last three points of the third period and, when senior
Bailey Frazier nailed a three to start the final frame, pulled within seven at 64-57. That would prove, however, to be as close as it got.

The loss spoiled a monster game by senior
Morgan Stamper, who finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds, eight of which came off the offensive glass. She was 5-of-6 from both the floor and free throw line.

Parker followed with 12 while Stone added 10.

The Bears got nice production off their bench, with freshman
Rachel Bush scoring nine and grabbing six rebounds while Collopy having nine and five.

UPike, 15-7 overall and 11-5 in the league, will be back in action on Saturday when they host Columbia (S.C.) College. That game has been moved to the Appalachian Wireless Arena and will now tip off at 4 p.m.
