Carver, Fields set new personal bests at IU Early Bird

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - University of Pikeville men's and women's track and field took part in the Indiana Early Bird Meet hosted by Indiana University Friday.  

On the men's side, David Exum and Zeke Hagley finished twelfth and thirteenth, respectively. Exam threw a 15.90m and Hagley threw a 15.58m. Both marks were better than one division II thrower and one division I thrower. Hagley also performed well in the shotput, recording a 16.33m toss and finishing above multiple division I throwers.  

Zach Mason finished tenth in the high jump after recording a leap of 1.92m. Jon Luke Fields competed in the 60-meter dash prelims and ran a 7.28. Fields's time in the 60-meter dash was good for twenty-first place overall and was a new personal best by the freshman sprinter from Virgie, Ky.  

On the women's side, Heaven Carver ran a 9.79 in the 60-meter hurdles then came in fifth in the 60-meter dash prelims and finished eighteenth overall. Carver's time of 7.93 was better than two division I athletes in the prelims. Carver's time in the 60-meter dash was a new personal best. 

With the results in Bloomington, the track and field Bears wrap up the fall 2024 part of the schedule. Coach David Espinoza's squad will be back in action after the winter break at the Marshall Alumni Invite hosted by Marshall University on January 11th.
