DANVILLE, Ky. - University of Pikeville men's and women's swimming competed at the Speedo Centre Invitational hosted by Centre College last week.
On the men's side, the team of Zane Whitaker, RJ Goins, Jacob Rubado, and Benjamin Mclaughlin swam a 1:42.25 in the 200 freestyle relay. Goins competed in the 500-freestyle and recorded a time of 5:28.43, then swam a 2:21.66 in the 200-yard individual medley. Zane Whitaker recorded a time of 25.18 in the 50-freestyle and a 1:06.93 in the 100-backstroke.
In the 400 medley relay, Zane Whitaker, Bryce Barton, Ryder Slone, and RJ Goins finished with a time of 4:29.66. Barton competed in the 100-butterfly and recorded a 1:04.39. Barton also made finals in the 200-backstroke.
Ryder Slone swam a 1:16.48 in the 100-breaststroke. Slone also made the finals in the 100-individual medley after swimming a 1:07.67. Slone finished two spots behind Whitaker in the 100-freestyle.
The men's team finished in eleventh place with 43 total team points.
On the women's side, Madelyn Smith swam a 6:29.75 in the 500-freestyle, a 2:26.76 in the 200-freestyle, a 1:17.8 in the 100-breaststroke In the 50-freestyle, Daylin Patrick swam a 32.10. Patrick also swam a 1:23.50 in the 100 backstroke and a 1:12.75 in the 100-freestyle.
The swim Bears will hit the pool again on January 11th for in Montgomery, W.Va., for a meet with WVU-Tech.
