PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – University of Pikeville men's and women's swimming took on Shawnee State in their final regular season meet of the 2024-25 season.
On the men's side, Bryce Barton had a productive day with one first-place finish and a pair of third-place finishes. Barton took the top spot in the 100 fly after recording a time of 1:13.88, then took third after swimming a 2:42.92 in the 200 backstroke and a 1:17.24 in the 100 backstroke.
RJ Goins took second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Jacob Rubado swam a 1:23.49 and finished one spot behind Goins 100 breaststroke. Rubado also finished fourth in the 100 freestyle. Benjamin Mclauchlin took second in the 100 backstroke and Ryder Slone took second in the 200 freestyle.
Zane Whitaker rounded out the highlights of the men's side with a 1:14.84 finish in the 100 backstroke, good for fourth. Shawnee State would win the head-to-head matchups by a final count of 151-46.
On the women's side, Madelyn Smith finished first in the 200 freestyle. Smith also finished third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 400 freestyle. Daylin Patrick swam a 1:30.59 in the 100 backstroke, good for second, and then 1:21.86 in the 100 freestyle. SSU won the head-to-head matchup 140-23.
Next up for Coach Bernie Haney's swim Bears are the AAC Conference Championships in Kingsport, Tenn., on February 5th-8th.
