Women's Tennis wins 4-2 over (RV) Oakland City

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - UPIKE women's tennis climbed to 2-0 on the season after a 4-2 road win over (RV) Oakland City University Saturday.  

Lilia Jerry and Yazmin Barrios started doubles with a 6-2 victory over Cristina Hurtado and Isabella Todorovic. Gabriela Guacanes and Azul Barrios secured the doubles team point with a 6-0 victory over Liz Aristizabal and Maria Trembach. Genesis Medina and Nathalia Diaz Casternda capped off doubles with a. 6-1 win over Sarah Acevedo and Juliana Duente.  

The Mighty Oaks tied the team score in the first singles match after Gabriela Guacanes lost 4-6, 2-6 to OCU's Maria Trembach. Yazmin Barrios and Azul Barrios put the Bears up three one after they both won their matches. Yazmin defeated Cristina Hurtado 6-2, 6-3 and Azul won 6-1, 6-1 ovre Liz Aristizabal. The Mighty Oaks took one final team point when Juliana Duente won 2-6, 2-6 over Sara Contreras to put the match at 3-2. With the match on the line, Lilia Jerry defeated Isabella Todorovich to secure the 4-2 victory for the Bears.  

Coach Cailee Marcum's squad will be back in action Thursday afternoon at Bob Amos Park for their AAC opener against No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan. Thursday's match with TWU will be the program's first-ever AAC match.
