FOXFIRE, N.C. – The University of Pikeville women's golf team began play in their spring schedule on Friday and Saturday, competing in the rain-soaked Mercyhurst Laker Spring Break Shootout.

The Bears finished second in the event, shooting 326-320 for a score of 646, coming in behind SCAD-Atlanta.

Because of rain scheduled for Saturday, most of the event was played on Friday, with many golfers completing the 36-hole event in one day.

Sophomore
Renee Crooks led the Bears with a third-place finish, shooting 154 (77-77) for the tournament. She was 10 strokes behind tournament champion Holly Lau of SCAD-Atlanta.

Freshman
Tayla Howroyd was tied for fourth, shooting 159 (81-78). Sophomore
Carly Crooks finished seventh, carding a 161 (82-79).

Sophomore
Lauren Holmes, playing as an individual, finished eighth with a 162 (81-81). Senior
Gabrielle Blankenship was tied for 15
th in the field with a 172 (86-86), while junior
Sophie Beverly was 17
th at 173 (87-86).

The Bears will return to action March 22-23 in the Klash in Kentucky, held at Perry Park, Ky., at the Perry Park Golf Resort.
