MADISONVILLE, Ky. - University of Pikeville archery opened the spring half of their schedule with a second-place finish at the 2025 Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships this weekend.
On the men's ranking round, Jack DiNapoli got the Bears started with a silver medal in the recurve. The Bears also had two top five finishes in the barebow with John Shelby Stephens shooting a 482 for silver and Kyle Sturgill taking fifth after shooting a 385. In the fixed pins, sophomore Caden Jones recorded 58 10s en route to a 598 score and a gold medal performance. Olivia Hale got the women's ranking round off to a great start with a 567 and a second-place finish in the recurve. Kennadi Mayer earned a gold medal in the barebow after shooting a 501. Allison Collinsworth also did well in the barebow, finishing fourth. Hunter Tunstill rounded out the ranking round with a fifth-place finish in the fixed pins.
UPIKE kept the momentum going into mixed team rounds, winning three of the four events. Jack DiNapoli and Olivia Hale won the mixed recurve 6-2 over Cumberlands, then John Shelby Stephens and Kennadi Mayer earned a 6-2 win over Lindsey Wilson to take gold in the mixed barebow. In the mixed fixed pins, Caden Jones and Hunter Tunstill edged out Lindsey Wilson 154-152 in the semifinals, then took gold after a 154-153 win over Cumberlands.
UPIKE did well in the official team rounds, gathering one gold medal, three silvers, two bronze, and one fourth place finish. The Bears' lone gold in the team rounds came in the men's fixed pins when the team of Caden Jones, Nate Harper, and Tate Jobe won 238-235 over Cumberlands. The men's recurve team of Jack DiNapoli, Ashton Adams, and Kole Whalen took silver and the women's recurve team of Olivia Hale, Anna Howard, and Bella Barrett took silver as well. In the men's barebow, John Shelby Stephens, Kyle Sturgill, and Logan Cunningham also took silver. The women's barebow team took bronze after Kennadi Mayer, Allison Collinsworth, and Emma Terry dominated Lindsey Wilson in the third-place match. Also taking bronze were Emma Willis, Alyssa Tenney, and Lydia Ratz in the women's compound. Rounding out the official team rounds were Hunter Tunstill, Natalie Holton, and Cassie Haldeman with a fourth-place finish in the women's fixed pins.
In the individual matches, Jack DiNapoli took the top spot in the men's recurve and Olivia Hale took first in the women's recurve. In the barebow, Allison Collinsworth took gold on the women's side and John Shelby Stephens took bronze for the men. UPIKE was very well represented in the fixed pins, occupying the final two spots. Caden Jones and Nate Harper both made finals, but Jones took gold after a close, 150-149 win over his teammate.
UPIKE finished the tournament with eight gold medals, four silver, five bronze and one fourth place medal for a total of 147 total team points. The Bears' eight gold medals were also the most of all the teams present.
