Bears earn 3-0 win over Eagles

MIDWAY, Ky. – University of Pikeville men's soccer snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 road win over Midway University Wednesday evening.
Alex Pritchard had the first shot attempt of the match that led to a UPike corner in the 8th minute. The first shot on goal came in the 21st minute off the foot of Midway's Saleh Ekuchi, but UPike goalie Alejandro Iglesias came up with the save.
The Bears first shot on goal in the 25th minute would not be the first goal of the match, but their second shot on goal in the 33rd minute would. Oliver Fausel, off an assist from Samuel Cristancho, put the Bears up 1-0. Fausel's goal would be the only mark on the scoresheet in the first half.
The Eagles had a pair of shot attempts right out of the half, both coming off the foot of George Spencer. Spencer's first shot attempt was stopped by Iglesias, and the second one was fired wide. UPike then turned up the heat in the 62nd minute.
From minutes 62 to 71, the Bears had four shot attempts (one on frame) and two corner kick opportunities before breaking through in the 72nd minute. Bruno Arenal, off a feed from Sam Allison, fired a shot past Midway goalie Connor Vincent to put the Bears up 2-0.
One minute later, Arenal scored his second goal in as many minutes to put the Bears ahead 3-0. Allison was credited with the assist, also his second in as many minutes. UPike's defense kept the Eagles in check throughout the remainder of the match and the Bears won 3-0, their second consecutive win over Midway.
Coach Oliver Hewitt-Fisher's squad improves to 5-5-1 (3-2-1 AAC) following Wednesday's victory over Midway. UPike will be back in action Saturday for an AAC road match in Cleveland, Ga., against Truett McConnell.
