Esports in playoff hunt after busy run of games

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - UPIKE esports has had a busy couple weeks, highlighted by big wins in Valorant over Wright State and University of Michigan-Flint and Overwatch wins over Elon and Transylvania.

The Valorant Team won 2-0 over Wright State. It was a best two out of three, with the first to 13 rounds win the match, but they must win by two rounds. During their victory over Wright State, the Bears fell behind 8-0 but were able to scratch and claw their way back to a triple-overtime 16-14 victory over the Raiders.

UPIKE Valorant followed up their comeback victory over WSU with a 2-0 win over University of Michigan-Flint. The Bears won 13-6 on map one and then held off UM-Flint 13-9 to secure the match victory.

The Bears took on Akron University Saturday evening and were defeated 2-0. UPIKE got off to a slow start in game one but battled back. Despite the comeback, the Zips held off the Bears and won 13-10. Akron would take the match after winning game two.

UPIKE took on Lander Monday night, who is the top team in the conference. Like their match against Akron, the Bears fell behind early to the Bearcats. The Bears picked it up late, but Lander held on for a 13-7 win in game one. Lander took game two 13-6 and won the match 2-0.

In Overwatch, UPIKE won 3-1 over Elon University. The Phoenix came into the match with multiple diamond and master ranked players. UPIKE fell in game one, but they stuck to their game plan and won three in a row and won 3-1.

The Overwatch Bears competed in division six of the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC). The Bears claimed the conference title after a 3-1 victory over Transylvania University, who were the defending conference champions.

The esports Bears will take on Arcadia University Tuesday, Warner University and Florida Gulf Coast University in Overwatch Friday and will take on Kettering University next Monday.
