PIKEVILLE, Ky. - UPIKE women's tennis defeated Brenau 7-0 Sunday morning in their 2024-25 AAC opener. UPIKE is now 7-0 on the season.  

Yazmin Barrios and Azul Barrios got the doubles matches started with a 6-2 win over BU's Shaloom Delgado and Nadja Noriega. Belen Cavallero and Gabriela Guacanes secured the doubles team point with a 6-2 win over Anita Portes and Manuela Giraldo. Natalia Geraldine Salinas and Lilia Jerry finished off the doubles matches with a 6-2 win over Kristina Radovic and Cady Geddings.  

Cavallero defeated Radovic 6-2, 6-2 in the opening singles match, and then Yazmin Barrios followed it up with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Noriega. Leading 3-0 in the match, Salinas secured the match victory for UPIKE with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Giraldo. Azul Barrios defeated Geddings 6-0, 6-1, and Genesis Medina and Sara Contreras won their individual matches as well to give the Bears a 7-0 victory over the Golden Tigers.  

Coach Cailee Marcum's tennis Bears will be back in action Friday for a 3:00 p.m. match against the Montreat Cavaliers at Bob Amos Park.
