PIKEVILLE, Ky. - UPIKE men's tennis defeated Montreat 4-3 Friday afternoon at Bob Amos Park.  

Guiliano Zambrano and Mateo Vargas got the doubles matches with a 6-1 victory over Bruno Gehlhaar and Danel Diez. Haithem Rabbouche and Ahmed Hassairi secured the doubles team point after winning 6-4 over Jorge Cebria and Daniel Garcia. Timur Chsherbakov and Anton Hofmann made capped off the doubles with a 7-5 win over Youssef Idboufous and Ibai Lopez.  

Chsherbakov opened the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Diez to put the Bears ahead 2-0 in the match. Garcia got the Cavaliers back in the match with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Rabbouche. The Cavaliers would tie the match after Idboufous won 6-0, 6-4 over Zambrano and Lopez gave MC the match lead after a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 win over Vargas. Hassairi knotted the team score at 3-3 after a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gehlhaar. With the match on the line, Hofmann faced off against Cebria. After falling 6-1 in the first set, Hofmann won the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3 to secure the 4-3 match win for UPIKE.  

Men's tennis will be back in action Saturday for an AAC road match against Johnson University.
