PIKEVILLE, Ky. - UPIKE women's tennis improved to 7-0 following a 6-1 win over Montreat Friday afternoon.  

Yazmin Barrios and Azul Barrios got the doubles matches started with a 7-6 win over Montreat's Chiharu Ito and Ainhoa Ordonez. UPIKE secured the doubles team point after Natalia Geraldine Salinas and Lilia Jerry defeated Annika Rojas and Clara Roman. The Bears held a 1-0 lead heading into the singles matches.  

Ito defeated Jerry 6-3, 6-2 in the first singles match, but the Bears quickly took the match lead back after Belen Cavallero won 6-2, 6-1 over Ordonez. Yazmin Barrios followed up Cavallero's win with a pair of 6-1 wins over Rojas to put the Bears in position to close out the match. With the match on the line, Salinas won 6-2, 6-4 over Roman to clinch the match for the Bears. Genesis Medina and Azul Barrios also won their singles matches and the Bears won 6-1. 

Coach Cailee Marcum's squad will take to the court again Saturday for a road match against Johnson University
