Men's golf wins OCU Invite

WILLIAMSPORT, Ohio – University of Pikeville men's golf won the OCU Spring Invite hosted by Ohio Christian University yesterday.

The tournament victory marks the Bears' fourth tournament victory of the year. UPIKE finished first in a seven-team field, twelve strokes ahead of second-place Shawnee State.

Jon Bryant finished highest of UPIKE's player leaderboard, coming one stroke short of the top spot. Bryant shaved five strokes off his round one score after recording birdies on holes nine, ten, and fourteen for a 75.

Coming in third overall and finishing three strokes behind Bryant was Cameron Bregman. Bregman's performance was highlighted by shooting a 75 during round one. Harley Davidson and Peyton Compton finished tied for ninth, Tyler Ford came in eleventh place, then Gunner Cassity and Saul Crist finished tied for seventeenth.

UPIKE shined in the advanced stats as well. The Bears led the tournament with 19 birdies and 82 pars. In scoring, the Bears finished first in par-five scoring with a team score of +4. UPIKE also led the tournament in par-four scoring by eleven strokes.

"Proud of the guys for the fight! Probably the worst tournament conditions I've seen in my 10 years as a player or coach. It would've been really easy to quit or lose focus in the round due to the difficulty, but they battled for each other and kept their heads down until the round was over. We gained a lot of experience on the back nine from that 2nd round," said Coach Dustyn Reinstetle after the win.

Coach Reinstetle's team will hit the road to Adairsville, Ga., for the 2025 AAC Men's Golf Conference Championships. The tournament will run from April 26th-29th.
