WALESKA, Ga. – University of Pikeville quarterback
Xavier Malone has been honored by the AAC.

Malone, a 6-1, 187-pound graduate student, was named Offensive Player of the Week thanks to his play against Maryville (Tenn.) College on Saturday afternoon.

For Malone, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., it is the second time this season he has won the honor.

Malone was 40 of 56 for 373 yards on Saturday against the Scots. In addition to completing 71.4 percent of his passes, he also threw a touchdown pass.

Those numbers are approaching school milestones for Malone. His completions were one off
Lee Kirkland's school record and his attempts ties for third on the all-time list.

The 373 yards gives him three 300-plus-yard games in four outings this season and five for his career, which is third most all-time.

Malone's scoring pass on Saturday covered 12 yards to
Jordan Williams and tied the score at 27-27 with 5:34 left to play in the third quarter.

He was also honored on Sept. 15 after going 37 of 53 for 437 yards and two touchdowns. Malone's yardage was a career high and the eighth most in school history.

The Bears are now finished with nonconference play for the regular season. They return to the field on Oct. 11, hosting the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) at the W.C. Hambley Athletics Complex at 7 p.m.
