WALESKA, Ga. – Two members of the University of Pikeville volleyball team have been honored by the AAC, one of them for the fourth consecutive week.
 
Lanie Hawley was named defender of the week and Chloie Brinton was again named setter of the week.
 
Brinton has been named setter of the week for the third straight week. Prior to that, she was named defender of the week.
 
Hawley, a two-time all-conference selection, was honored for the first time.
 
Hawley is a 5-11 junior from Burlington, Wisc. She finished the week with 16 total blocks, 11 of them of the solo variety. She also had 16 digs for the week.
 
Her week was highlighted by a seven-block performance on Tuesday night in a 3-1 win over Bluefield (Va.) University, five of them being solos. On Friday night, she had six total blocks.
 
Additionally, she had 28 kills, two service aces and a pair of assists on the offensive side of the net.
 
For the season, Hawley is averaging 0.95 blocks per set, which is fourth in the AAC.
 
Brinton, a 5-8 junior from Lindon, Utah, averaged nine assists per set for the week, finishing with 126 total.
 
On Wednesday, she finished with 36 assists in a 3-1 win over Bluefield. She had 41 on Friday and 49 on Saturday in a pair of five-set matches.
 
Her average of 8.68 assists per set leads the AAC, while her total of 573 on the season is more than 200 ahead of the field. On the defensive side, her total of 227 digs is fifth in the conference.
 
UPike is 7-9 overall and 4-1 in the league and will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Columbia (S.C.) College. The match is slated for an 11 a.m. start and will be played at the UPike Gym.
