WALESKA, Ga. – A University of Pikeville women's golfer has been named AAC Player of the Week.
Â
Tayla Howroyd, a junior from Edenvale, South Africa, was honored for her play in last week's tournament.
Â
It was the first time in her career she has been selected as conference player of the week.
Â
Howroyd finished tied for second in the East Tennessee Collegiate, played at the Johnson City Country Club. Howroyd shot 146, three strokes behind the winner.
Â
Howroyd fired an opening-round 72 and followed it with a 74 in the final round.
Â
"Tayla played great last week and deserves this," said Coach
Nelson Scott. "I'm proud of the work she has put in and how well she has started this season. She's giving us what we need out of her right now."
Â
Howroyd's play helped the Bears to a second-place finish in the East Tennessee Collegiate. They were the top finisher of the five AAC clubs participating in the event.
Â
UPike is in action this week, playing in the Invite at Innsbrook, which finishes up on Tuesday. Their next tournament will be the Gibson Bay Invitational, a match play event, Oct. 13-14 in Richmond.
