WALESKA, Ga. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team played only once last week but it was enough for one player to receive honors from the Appalachian Athletics Conference.
Â
Chloie Brinton was named Defender of the Week in a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Â
She was honored alongside senior Berkli Benefield of Union Commonwealth, who was chosen as the Attacker of the Week, and Bluefield (Va.) freshman Kylee Sturgill, the Setter of the Week.
Â
Brinton, a 5-8 junior from Lindon, Utah, had 22 digs in a four-set match against the University of Rio Grande on Saturday.
Â
A setter, Brinton also recorded 28 assists and a service ace against the Red Storm.
Â
Brinton, a transfer from Utah Valley University, is averaging 3.67 digs per set this season, which is good for eighth in the league and leads the team. Her 7.18 assists per set has her third in the conference.
Â
UPike will be back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Lindsey Wilson College. The match will be the first home contest of the season and is set for a 7 p.m. start.
